About Our "church"

Demos Karpophoros logo 1.png
Demos of Karpophoros Hellenion (DKH)  is a Hellenic Reconstructionist temple "church" based in Northern California.
We seek to build χάρις with the Theoi.
While our polytheism coalesces around the ancient Greek pantheon, we are a very welcoming. Our active members follow other polytheistic practices-- Mesopotamian, Egyptian/Kemetic, Celtic, Norse and Roman deities concurrently.

All Are Welcome

Decentralized Power Structure

One of the appealing aspects of our demos is it's decentralized power structure. Any member can take the lead in a ritual of their choosing. That person can write a script, select a location, and advertise for that ritual. Demos Karpophoros will support that ritual with tools and logistical support, but the lead member is responsible for much of the costs. Thus, DKH rituals are funded in the same way that ancient Greek poleis would use λειτουργίες to pay for civic religious celebrations in ancient Greece.

Core Philosophy

We seek to create opportunities so that people can connect with the ancient Theoi. Our credo could best be found in the writings of Sallustius, a pagan apologist and friend of Emperor Julian, writing in Alexandria during the last decades of legal paganism.
"And for this reason we pray;

that we might be become One with the Gods."

καὶ δια τοῡτο ἡμεĩς εὑχόμεθα συναφθῆναι Θεοĩς

Education & Support

As a proud member of Hellenion we have access to deep knowledge base in reconstructing the past. At the national level, Hellenion has a top tier Basic Adult Education. This remote correspondence class is designed to help clarify the thoughts and assumptions of the curious. Furthermore, Karpophoros' theoros-in-training can assist with any praxis questions that may come up. Ancient Greek & Latin study sessions are available by appointment. DKH also has a small travel fund to be used help defray the costs of travel to and from events.
